BBQ Tofu + Three Plate Ideas

This is the third installment of plate ideas. This time, we are looking at three plate ideas for serving with BBQ tofu! The BBQ tofu recipe is simple and goes great with all these sides! Be sure to use your favorite BBQ sauce brand!

VEGAN BBQ TOFU

Cook Time: 8-10 minutes
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Serving Size: 3 1/4 pieces
Total Servings: 3

Ingredients:

1 14 oz extra firm tofu
1 -2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup vegan BBQ sauce (store bought)

Directions:

  1. Drain and press the tofu. To press the tofu, wrap it in a clean dish towel or paper towels, and put a few heavy books on top for ten minutes.
  2. Once the tofu is finished, cut it in long slices as pictured below. You should get 8 pieces.
  3. Add the cornstarch to a plate and coat each piece of tofu with the cornstarch.
  4. Heat oil in a large pan on medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the tofu. Cook for 4-5 minutes until a golden color.
  5. Flip the tofu and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
  6. Turn of the heat. I remove the pan from the heat and wait a few minutes so any extra oil or BBQ sauce doesn’t splatter. Add the BBQ sauce. It should still be hot enough to heat the sauce, but if not you can turn the heat on to low to medium and warm it up.
